Soile Veijola
Soile Veijola is Professor of Cultural Studies of Tourism at University of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland, where she has worked after finalizing her PhD in sociology on mobile subjects and situated knowledges at the University of Helsinki. Her forty years of engagement with various sociological aspects of tourism and mobility and motility cultures as well as with academic writing about tourism and other issues have included themes such as embodiment, gender-blind theorizing, new work, sleep, mobile neighboring, silence, and responsible planning of tourism in lived and visited milieus. She has experimented with narrativity and collaborative writing with adventurous colleagues in her publications and explored ways to communicate with also with wider audiences and students of all disciplines regarding issues of ethical production and utilization of research-based knowledge.
